Dr. Kociolek, what inspired you to become a physician with a focus on C. difficilc?
My career goal was to greatly improve the quality, safety, and effectiveness of clinical care in children by preventing healthcare-associated infections. I recognized that C. difficile was a very common infection in children. There also was a substantial knowledge and research gap for how to best diagnose, treat, and prevent this infection in children. Thus, I have focused my career on addressing that knowledge gap.
What fuels your passion to continue striving for progress in your field?
I have had the privilege to work with so many passionate and devoted physicians and scientists focused on C. difficile clinical care and basic, translational, and clinical research. The community dedicated to preventing and reducing harm from C. difficile is filled with intelligent and collaborative physicians, nurses, scientists, and public health officials. Ongoing work with these individuals keeps me motivated.
Dr.Kociolek, what is your big dream of what tomorrow looks like because of your work or with your work and the contributions of others?
My big dream is to extend the work and research performed in adult populations to identify the best strategies for diagnosing, treating, and preventing C. difficile in children.
Thank you, Dr. Kociolek for sharing your inspiration, passion, and views with our visitors.
